-My CryptoPunks Collection-

Overview

Quick Stats:

-Total number of Punks in Collection: 22 (I did have 24 Punks at one point but sold 2 of them in 2021)
-Gender Distribution: 8 Female Punks, 14 male Punks
-Rarities: Six of the 22 Punks have attributes that are in the Top-10 most rare attributes: Beanie, Orange-Side, Welding Goggles, Pigtails, Pink with Hat, and Top Hat.
-It Turns Out: the Collection has 3 Punks that have VR Glasses and 3 Punks that have Pipes. This wasn't planned - just turned out that way.
-Wallet Distribution: The 22 Punks are distributed across four different wallets - all of them now paper-wallets, for security reasons.
-"Celebrity Punk": - U2 Guitarist, "The EDGE"

Curatorial Method:

After buying my first few Punks I decided to stop for a minute, take a pause, and really think about what I wanted to achieve with my collecting. Once I realized what my goal was, I took a very deliberate and purposeful approach towards achieving it.

The overall goal then was actually quite simple: not just randomly buy whatever Punks looked good to me on any particular day, but actually build a Collection. Something that showed the breadth and scope of the Punks. Something that when looked at from a far, told a story, by highlighting the full Specturm of the project. I wanted to build a collection that clearly communicated that some serious thought went into its construction.

To achieve this I came up with two guiding principles: I wanted Punks that showed rarity and variety, all while paying close attention to aesthetics (which are of course subjective.)

RARITY - here I simply concentrated on attribute-rarity. For example: there are only 44 Beanies - it's the single most rare Human Punk attribute of them all, and they're colorful and beautiful, so I had to grab one as soon as it became available. Same thing with Orange-Side and Pink-with-Hat: both gorgeous, both rare - had to get those in as well. Pigtails are rare, Welding Goggles, Top Hat - all Rare - had to have those too.
But Chokers and Buck-Teeth? Sure, they're numerically rare, but aesthetically I didn't find them pleasing, so I never tried to get any of those.

And so it went.
I bought Punks I liked, Punks that showed variety, and tried to slowly build a collection that would illustrate the full SPECTRUM of colors and textures the entire project exhibited.

It goes without saying that I never fully completed the task. There were any number of Punks that were on my "must-buy" list - but I never got there.

OF NOTE: when it came to rarity, I never considered the number of attributes a given Punk may have had as an important rarity metric. I know attribute-count is very important to many of the collectors out there, but that just never resonated with me. Aesthetics have always been much more important to me than numbers (and again, I write this knowing full well that "Aesthetics" are a highly personal and subjective thing.) To put a finer point on this, there is for example only one single Punk in the entire collection that has 7 attributes, which means that mathamatically it's the most rare Punk of them all. But while many collectors gush over that Punk for that very mathamatical reason - I always thought it was kind of ugly and would never want to include it in my collection.
Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the spectrum are Punks that have 0 (zero) attributes - and there are only 8 of those(!) So mathamatically those Punks are quite rare as well. But again, I find zero-attribute Punks to be pretty uninteresting, regardless of how mathamatically rare they happen to be.

VARIETY - my focus here was equally on three different aspects: Colors, Attributes, and Genders.
1. Colors - here I simply wanted to show the Punks in their full Prismatic glory. Or in plain English: I wanted my collection to feature LOTS of COLORS! Blues, Pinks , Reds, Oranges, some Yellow and Green - basically avoid monochromes and try to show as many frequencies of the visible specturm as possible.
2. Attributes - I wanted to showcase LOTS of different attributes and avoid repeating too many of the same attributes. For example:
• Eyewear: there are eight different types of glasses featured in the collection: Small Shades, Eye-Patch, 3D-Glasses, Eye-Mask, VR-Glasses, Welding Goggles, Horned-Rim-Glasses, and Nerd Glasses.
• Hats/Headwear: there are seven different hats/Headwear in the collection: Beanie, Do-rag, Police-Cap, Knitted-Cap, Bandana, Hoodie, and Top-Hat.
• Hair-Color: there are four different hair-colors in the collection: Pink, Orange, Red, and Black. I wanted to get a Green in there as well, but it never happened.
3. Genders - if you want to show variety, you can't have 90% of your collection be Male Punks. Luckily, some of the prettiest Punks in the Project happen to be Females. Furthermore, some of the most rare attributes are exclusive to the Female Punks. Literally 6 of the top-10 most-rare attributes are sported only by Females - which made life very easy for me in terms of deciding which Punks to buy.
All tolled then, more than 1/3 of my collection (36% to be exact) is comprised of Female Punks. What's particularly cool about this is that it perfectly mirrors the Male-Female distribution that the entire CryptoPunks Project has.
